This section is a record of the work carried out in the Old Market Square for the arrival of NET. The archive acts as a record of what happened when the tram was built through the heart of our city centre. For a 360 degree view of the mural erected on Beastmarket Hill during the works click here. |
Clearzone - creating a cleaner, greener city centre
www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/clearzone
All
but essential traffic is now excluded from the streets surrounding the
Old Market Square during peak times. This means that in certain areas
access is only allowed at particular times, some routes have been converted
into pedestrian only areas and only buses, taxis, blue/orange badge holders
- and trams - are allowed into the Clear Zone.
The main changes to the Old Market Square area were as follows:-
· Taxis and buses relocated from South Parade
· Through route from Friar Lane to Market Street and Angel Row
restricted
· Through route from Mount Street / Angel Row / Friar Lane removed
· Environmental improvements with new York stone pavements and
improved bus stop facilities and shelters.
· Changes to loading restrictions.
· Beastmarket Hill now single direction only.
· One way on Long Row West switched to westward direction.
· Changes to restrict access via Wheeler Gate.
These changes have already created a greener, cleaner city centre and
will eventually allow the tram to glide through the Old Market Square
without getting stuck in traffic.
