Comparisons

Initial studies indicate that the Beeston via QMC route is the stronger route when tested against most of the criteria
which Government will take into account when considering our NETwork proposal. What do you think?

Links important transport destinations of Beeston Town Centre, Beeston Station and Beeston Rylands, Crossgate Drive/Electric Avenue commercial area and the City Centre.

Fast journey time from Beeston Town Centre to Nottingham City Centre outperforming existing bus services.

Slower journey time than QMC route and some existing bus services but serves the existing Queens Drive Park and Ride site.

Lower construction and running costs than Boots route.
Higher construction and running costs than QMC route.

Higher expected passenger numbers and value for money than Boots route.
Lower expected passenger numbers and worse value for money than QMC route.

Loss of habitat and significant impact on wildlife near King's Meadow, Lenton will require mitigation.

Lesser impact on ecology of Trent riverside and floodplain requiring work to minimise disturbance.

Significant property acquisition required.
Less private land required.

New bridges over Clifton Boulevard at QMC and the railway in Lenton.
Sharing track with a Clifton via Queens Drive route (if chosen) would give some cost saving. Difficult engineering problems in the Trent floodplain and crossing Clifton Boulevard/Queens Drive and the environmental impact of a new bridge over the railway at Beeston station.

The information above reflects criteria used to judge routes (see key). The full reports to the County and City Councils which provide more information on route choices are available for download here, they will also be available at the consultation events and at Public Libraries near the routes.

Either of the routes we are considering to Beeston Town Centre could continue on to Chilwell. As there are few roads wide enough and heading in the right direction, our studies have not been able to identify any practical alternatives to the route described below. Our studies also indicate that the Chilwell route is strong when compared against the criteria explained on the key above.

Description   Key Issues

From Beeston Town Centre, the route follows Chilwell High Road and then Cator Lane before using an area of open land opposite Greenwood Court and next to Clumber Avenue. It crosses Bramcote Lane at Sandby Court, continuing along the open space by Eskdale Drive. The route would terminate at a new Park and Ride near the A52/B6003 Toton Lane junction (Bardill's Island).

Route mainly separated from other traffic. A Park and Ride provision and possibility of
feeder bus services from Stapleford and Toton.

Substantial increases in passenger numbers over terminating at Beeston.

Relatively low capital and running costs.

Servicing needs of local traders and other traffic on Chilwell High Road requires careful traffic management.

Route detail at Sandby Court retirement apartments needs careful consideration.

Park and Ride and some track would be in existing greenbelt. Loss of some recreational space along the route - impact can be minimised by appropriate design.

Option to run next to Broxtowe College but this runs very close to Richmond Court
and Greenwood Court and is seen as a second best option.
