Consultation

Officers of Nottingham City Council & Nottinghamshire County Council (the promoters of the NET) have recommended to the two councils that the Beeston via QMC, Chilwell extension & Clifton via Wilford routes should proceed to the next stage of development, including submission to central Government. The West Bridgford routes have been deferred. For further details, download the report below.

The City County Councils have voted in favour of all the recommendations outlined in the report. At the meeting of the County Council on 16th May, Councillor Terry Butler tabled a further three recommendations at the meeting.

The text of these new recommendations reads as follows:

That the recommendations in the report be approved subject to: -

i) A detailed report back to the Council in early 2003 and before the Transport and Works Act Order is submitted on the following:

(a) the results of Annex E economic appraisals to DTLR
(b) The full financial implications of the proposals going forward in any Transport and Works Act Order including any impact of the NET network for funding to the remainder of the County area
(c) An update on the proposed measures to meet the environmental and local concerns outlined in the report

ii) Discussions taking place with DTLR and the City Council to review the extent of local contributions to the Network to be met by the County Council.

iii) The arrangements between the County Council, City Council and other partners for managing the next steps in the progression of the NET network development be the subject of early discussions with the City Council.

The new recommendations do not cause a delay to the project and, indeed are already part of the process. They concentrate on exploring how further lines can be financed to the best interests of the whole County Council area, on staffing and resource issues between the two councils and on reporting back on the detailed design work, particularly in reference to local concerns and possible mitigation measures. A further vote in both councils will be required before a Transport and Works Act Order could be submitted to Government.
