NET Line One runs from Nottingham Station to
Hucknall, with a spur to Phoenix Park at Cinderhill.
A fleet of 15 trams will provide a peak-time,
city centre service every six minutes, running from 6am to 12pm every
day of the year except Christmas Day, and between 8am and 11pm on Sundays
and Bank Holidays.
Arrow Consortium designed, financed, built and
now operate NET Line One, through a £200 million Private Finance
Initiative with the Government. This consortium comprises civil engineers
Carillion, tram builders Bombardier
(formerly ADtranz), tram and bus integration experts Transdev
and major local bus operator Nottingham
City Transport.
The Bombardier-Carillion Consortium constructed
the system, having started on-street in June 2000. Approximately a year
of utility diversions and a year of track laying were needed before overhead
cables and other infrastructure were put in place. There was then a period
of energizing the system, a commissioning period and trial running of
trams, running to a 'shadow' timetable, so that the vehicles and system
can be tested and approved by Her Majesty's Railway Inspectorate well
ahead of public services being provided in March 2004.
